Trey Anastasio, Les Claypool, & Stewart Copeland...The new Cream?
It's been along time since the world of rock music has seen a new "supergroup", the last one I can think of is Asia from the 80's, & I thought that was a complete failure. Whats everybody think of Trey, Les, & Stewart combining their talents together? Do you think it will be cool? Do you think it will last & grow into something or is this just a little diversion for these guys?

i'm not a jam band fan (phish)
i like some of les' stuff
but its too "out there" for me
i totally dig old police and stewart copelands
drumming.
they are all strong in their individual areas
and i'm interested to see what direction then went?
was one stronger than the other?
is it possible to hear on their songs?
could a person tell which songs were more
influenced by whom?
interesting...
supergroup...nice concept

Oysterhead...supergroup...hm...well, in my opinion, no. I've heard them and i say they are just a good group. Phish was great because they somehow filled ( most of it at least ) the space, something not done since the grateful dead ( in my opinion). since the grateful dead had 2 guitarists, 2 drummers, keyboardist, bassist, and one time a backup vocalist, its a very incredible feat that phish was able to accomplish with just 4 members. but down to 3, stewy copeland...police drummer, very good. trey anastasio- phish, excellent excellent excellent. les claypool- very good, absolutely dominates that bass. Maybe im asking too much ( sorry major oysterhead phans ) but is for like a trumpet player or a keyboard player, ya know? i mean i absolutely love trey anastasio band. totally.

I was at Oysterhead's first public jam a couple of years ago. It was interesting to watch, but to be honest Trey was playing a lot of nothing at a very high speed which basicly cancelled out the supurb grooves that Les and Stuart were generating. Larry LaLonde (Primus' guitarist) came back on and the whole jam came together very quickly. Having heard some studio Oysterhead (they have an mp3 up on www.oysterhead.com), I have to say they've shaped up, but it's still my least favorite Claypool project. I'd much rather spend my money on Col Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade's second CD. Though I find the keyboardist kinda annoying, the band as a whole kicks ass.
What I like most about Oysterhead is that it's a three peice and breathes rather well. Though it doesn't sound that way on the studio tracks, Oysterhead is capable of filling A LOT of sonic space, but can easily bring things down to a minimum avoiding the "stuffy" feeling a lot of larger bands can put out.
On a side note, Oysterhead is pro-taping, so if you ask around you can probably trade for a live bootleg pretty easily.

Yes, and I consider Black Sabbath the best of the early jam bands.
It takes all kinds!
