I feel compelled to mention this also. I've got a buddy I went to high school with who is ridiculously good at bass. I honestly would not be surprised to see him go pro with some sort of jazz or funk ensemble soon.

His name is Gavin Hardy. I'll link you to a page of his old band with poor recordings that you can't hear the bass well on it, but this band is jammin. I really recommend listening to the Soulive cover "First Street" they did. The guitarist is awesome also.
