I've been playing for about a year and a half now and I havent really had anybody to tell me what the basics are. I know my basic chords but what would some basic things be that everyone should know other than guitar parts and basic chords?

One tip is to learn the pentatonic scales.
They appear in 98% of the rock songs.(Many jazz and blues too)
And the phrygian scale appears in 89% of the metal songs.
A plus is theyre very easy, you dont have to move
around your hand.
