Right this is kinda tricky to explain, im running my guitar through a korg multieffect and into a marshal mg series amp, my effects pedel has alot of excellent tones but they are all very warm and smooth and sound great for rythme however for lead some parts i want something with more pressence and harshness which i am current getting by using the fdd(frequency dependant damping) switch on my amp and basicaly i want a effects pedel that will have a similar effect so i can switch it on and off easily and plug into a more powerful amp any ideas?

The same thing as frequency dampening? An eq pedal. :)

Ibanez tube screamer

Vintage if you can find/afford, or you can build one yourself for like $25

It'll probably cost you more than 25 USD to build a Tube Screamer... more like about 50-60 USD... the printed circuit board alone would be around 25 USD...

The Tube Screamer is about the best overdrive you can go for. An EQ pedal will help you out a ton by raising the frequencies that are getting bled off. The problem with running an EQ with an effects processor is: If you run it before the processor the frequencies often get cut anyway... If you run it after the processor... Often the frequencies sound like mush, so when you turn them up they may sound dirty and colored. EQ's are best used in an effects chain that doesn't have a seperate preamp from the amps preamp.

If I were you I'd look around. Check out Snarling Dogs line of effects pedals... very affordable and nice sounding.

Also, are you using your bridge pickup when you want to get that cutting lead tone?? Your guitar controls can go a long way when you know how to use them properly... Set your neck pickup tone knob all the way to the treble side and see what that does for you...

ooo right thanks do eq pedels offer a boost then? i allways thought that they just reduced differant frequencies, i want it to really fill out the sound and give it more impact would it do that?

I forgot that I etched my own board for the tube screamer. So yea it would be more if you buy the board. I really like the way mine turned out. I stuffed it into an electrical junction box. Looks crappy sounds wonderful

I'd recommend a tubescreamer as well. The reissue TS808 has a warmer tone to my ears, but the TS9 is nice as well. The EQ idea will work fine, but the tubescreamer will fill out your tone for the max volume moments...
