I was just out of high school and talked with the teacher to let me use the wood shop during a lunch break. There was a big block of birch that had been curing for a year so I cut it up and formed two equal halves which I glued together. Once I had the body shape cut out I did the rest of the work at home in my bedroom....on my bed.....very messy. I used a chisel to cut out the cavities and my dremel to smooth things outs. Despite a lack of tools and know-how I managed to build a very nice guitar body for my cheap guitar. I then sanded all the clearcoat finish off the neck and applied tung oil. Then, I cut the headstock so it looked more like an Ibanez. After the dust cleared I had a very nice sounding and nice looking cheap guitar which I still use today.
