I liked how you kept it right on the fringe of being cliche but never really crossed the boundary... if you know what I mean. Well done.
And when you're in tough times sometimes writing is the perfect outlet. I cope with a lot of stuff through my writing since I'm more of a closed individual. Writing is my therapy... So when you're in those tough times get your pen and paper and write what you're feeling and the thoughts that coe with it. Even if it doesn't work out into a song it'll help a lot... Writing is like anything else too, the more you do it the better things start to work themselves out... Rock on man, keep writing!! And make sure you never lose that "I don't care what you think about it" attitude. That's the best attitude for writing anything that is near and dear to you.
