question about garageband

I use Apple's Garageband all the time. I recently started recording some stuff for the solo assignments on this forum. I was wondering if it was possible to layer my solo over the backing track. Or somehow record another way. Basically my question is how to get my solo and the backing track on the same mp3 track.

I don't have an Apple so I never used Garageband before but most recording software works the same. You put the backing track on one track. Record the solo on another track and then render the final product to MP3. Hopefully someone with Apple experience will chime in here and give you an explicit and definitive answer.
