Saga TC bridge plate query

I am assembling a Saga tele, all goes well apart from non aligning holes for pickguard, and a too short ground wire. My worry is the bridge plate. It is held with three screws at the base. The upper edge is free, and lifted high. It would look better flush. Could I remove the spring there? Should I worry about it? The string tension will presumably stop it rattling. Any thoughts welcomed.
