What's wrong with his avatar? I mean, I think it's weird, but that's just because I'm not used to seeing hunter with an avatar.

It makes it very difficult for me to think of him as an intelligent person, which I know he is, no offense. It's not you, just the picture :P

Actually, that avatar matches his name pretty well, on a color to word balance, imo.

Then you will understand.

Follow this with "Hells Angles" (also by HST), which will make much more sense if you have read Tom Wolf's "The Electric Coolaid Acid Test".

Until that time don't be surprised if people treat you opinion on this matter with something less than contempt !

IMHO it is a very fine avatar that says much about the man. All are things I respect and have aspired to at one time or another (well in the days when my liver used to work anyway)!

In all seriousness, I have been thinking that perhaps you're right. Although the character of Hunter60 is a loose homage to the man, the avatar may be a bit much. I can't really put one up that features a guitar player as I am still so bad at this, it would end up being a complete fraud.

But then again, the signature line is also from HST so maybe the avatar works after all.

How about this? I'll change it to another one, you guys take a look and tell me which you like better. We'll let the masses decide. Afterall, this is a Republic of sorts.

Oh rah Doc - agreed. Although I have always been a big reader, it was Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas that taught me that there is so much more to literature and writing, more than what they were teaching us school, that it really shaped me as an adult. Both good and bad I'd say. Hunter was the man that inspired me to try my hand at writing. And even now, at 46, I have not abandoned the dream. I imagine that I will always sit and peck away at a keyboard until I hit the mark or breathe my last.

Hells Angels is, in my opion, the finest example of non-fiction writing in contemprary literature. The Electric KoolAid Acid Test follows a tight second. What I have always found amazing is how one writer leads to another to another. Sort of like music. You know, you 'discover' that first guitar player to strike your fancy and the next thing you know, you're listening (and enjoying) old Guitar Slim records. One writer turns you on to the next to the next and so on.

As far as the avatar, I am fine with both; either the little cartoon of HST or the Gonzo logo. I'll let you guys decide.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to hunter60 again.

Uh, well, I'm all for reading stuff, so I suppose I will read those things. Brendon was going to borrow me Fear and Loathing, but never did, so sorry that you have to suffer my stupidity on the matter. Perhaps someday, if I study, you will be able to stop holding me in contempt. Until then all I can go by is what I see and how it makes me feel. As far as that goes, I'm liking the new avatar, hunter60.
