Myspace+bands=good?
Anybody here use Myspace as promotion for their band? I know that JFRICK (or however you spell that) does. I'm thinking that when we record some songs I want to make a Greasy Knots Myspace. Brendon seems opposed to the idea (well he flat out told me not to) because he doesn't think that it would do anything for us, personally I think that it would be helpful in getting people into our music and making connections with other bands. Brendon thinks we should do Soundclick or Purevolume, which I think we should do too, but I also think we should do Myspace because frickin' EVERYBODY is on there (which is probably why Brendon doesn't want to use it). What do you fellers think? Myspace+Greasy Knots=yes?

One name: Dane Cook. Yeah, I know he's a comedian and not a musician, but he made his career on Myspace. You can have all the talent in the world but if you don't catch the exposure, you make the odds against achieving monstorous success that much greater.
When there's such a powerful marketing tool available to you, I say jump on it.

Crazy you ask this question. I just recently searched some local bands on myspace and actualy found a couple that I realy like (from what I heard on there page). Infact I made plans to go see one of the bands show at the end of the month. I would of never of known of these bands if it where not for myspace. I say it is an excelent opertunity for you to get alot more exposure and get yourself seen. This day in time you would be crazy not to take advantage of this. (not that im calling anyone crazy.....lol) Good luck with it.

Wow, you certainly have a selective memory. The last thing I said on this matter was actually "Okay, but at least wait until we have some songs to put on there."

Myspace would be a great way to get some exposure, as Dime once said "It takes time and persistance, so hang tough and give your s*** to as many people as you can." I'd do both a PureVolume and a Myspace account. Since sound click went myspace, it wouldn't be bad to do all 3.

Yep Myspace it. I hate the site but I'm old and grumpy. You can definitely get exposure there. You can even record some concert video at some point and put it on You Tube. It can't hurt.

I don't really have a band, but I use myspace to post stuff I've recorded, though recently I've used dmusic instead, but there really isn't much...exposure on there; but myspace is definitely a great marketing tool...Just about every band has a myspace somehow, plus there have been tons of bands that I have discovered on myspace and instantly fell in love with, like Chasing Victory and Chiodos; So yeah myspace is definitely good, except that there can be times when the band will get ripped off and some one will post their(as in the bands) songs, but that's still exposure I guess;

Agreed - I think doing all three is the way to go. As others have said, you want to go for maximum exposure. Keep in mind that Myspace only allows you to post four songs, so perhaps you should provide links to your Soundclick and Purevolume pages on your Myspace site.

Well by the looks of it we'll be having a Myspace and an official website that will replace our crappy Freewebs one. Don't know when that'll be, but the Myspace should be soon. I'll link ya's once it's done up!

My Brother in-law's band is on myspace and they seem to be getting quite a local following, and they are'nt much different than a million other green day ripoffs.

You can contact members based on postal/zip code as well, so if you've got a gig coming up you can tell all myspace users in a 5km radius or whatever... might help increase the numbers... :cool:
Bands 'making it' on myspace are rare though - even the touted ones like the Artic Monkeys - they used myspace to help build a live following, but it was always their music and performances that made the pages interesting.
Maybe it's time to go full circle and start band busking on a local street corner? :D
