Man when I think back to the good old hair bands GnR has to be tops of my list. What a great list it is though.

I'm not too keen on most hair bands - in my opinion, the only band from that scene in which every member was significantly talented is Queensryche. But there are some other good musicians scattered amongst the other bands - I'll second George Lynch, he's great; like him or not, Jon Bon Jovi (and Ritchie Sambora is a pretty damn good guitarist as well); the drummer from Journey (can't remember his name) is great, too.

- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

When I think of "hair bands" I dont really think of GnR. But anyways, I like the guitarists from Skid Row a lot. And the guys from Ratt...Warren DeMartini i believe.

Skid Row most definitely. Slave to the Grind is one of my favorite albums of all time. Every track on there is great.

I think either Paul Gilbert or Reb Beach(Winger Guitarist) was the best guitarist of the 80's.

Reb rocks balls

Metallica...

All you have to do is look up some of their vids from their early days on youtube and you'll agree.... Back when Metallica was actually metal.... and cool.

There you go!! I ALWAYS loved Queensryche! Especially Operation Mindcrime. We used to cover the 'Needle Lies' in my band years ago.

Still love Megadeth! Seen them many many times in concert over the years.

I did not consider Metallica or Megadeth hair metal either! Best guitarist's of the 80's??? hummm....

Reb Beach
George Lynch
Richie Sambora
Vito Bratta (from White Lion)

Can think of anymore at the moment....

I honestly don't know the difference between hair metal and metal.... I thought hair metal was just any metal band that had big hair?

I guess I don't know what technicalities there are to distinguish a hair metal band from any other metal band of the 80's...

I guess when I look at 80's music I generally leave "hair metal" out of the classifications all together and just lump them into either glam rock or metal.... Bon Jovi, Van Halen, and GnR are glam/hard rock more than anything...

But as far as 80's metal (hair, or otherwise) goes I'd say my fav musicians are:

Drums: Neil Pert (Rush)
Bass: Cliff Burton (Metallica) or Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big... now of Steve Vai Band)
Lead: Randy Rhoads (Ozzy), young Zakk Wylde (Ozzy), or Slash
Rhythm: Izzy Stradlin (GnR) or James Hettfield
Vocals/Frontman: Axl Rose (minus the ego)...

Hard to narrow all those down since the 80's produced such a wide variety of musicians.... but Eddie Van Halen, Richie Sombora, all of Iron Maiden, Paul Gilbert, Marty Friedman, Dave Mustaine, Jason Becker, Steve Vai, George Lynch... on and on... were all great musicians... whether or not they fell into the strange category of "hair metal" I don't know...

I've always thought of Hair bands as the ones that teased their hair up and kinda looked like Lita Ford. Warrant, Poisen, etc.............
One Band that I thought was alright was Cinderella, who fit the Ballot.
