I hear people talk about 'Audacity' for free recording - might be worth a look. I use Sonar sometimes... Sonar LE has most of the features and is cheap as I recall... what's the budget? Do you have the hardware?

I was just going to suggest that. It's a pretty basic recording unit and it's all pretty straight forward... It also comes with most of the features of a POD. I know someone who has the earlier version which was called 'GuitarPort'... and it's not too bad at all for fiddlin around with recording on the computer.

If I wanted some gear for recording mainly guitar, and a few other things, onto the computer, I'd go with the line 6 toneport as well.
