I have read a great deal about the G Major and I know a lot of people have experienced the unit dropping out or shutting down while it was in use. In using a friends unit I have experienced the exact same thing where the unit just stops working. Sometimes powering it down and bringing it back up would get it working and other times it would have to sit for a while before it would come back on. When the unit stops working the display also goes out or partially goes out.

Does anyone have expeience with this problem where you have actually found a fix for it?

You input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Although I have never heard of this unit persay, By what you are describing it could be one of two things.

1. Over heating. If the unit is fitted with a heatsink and a fan then the fan aint working. If only a heatsink then the heat sink isn't large enough. Because of this the power supply is overheating if it is an onboard one.

If there is a link to view online with details of the unit that i could look at then i may have a solution.

2. There could be an onbaord battery. The Gnx series from digitec have this feature and this was at fault when my unit went down. Replacing this with a new one could sort this out.

As i say i am not familiar with this piece of kit so this is guess work on my part
so i am not aware of the build quality. Alternatively if the unit relies on software to perform it's function then that could also be at fault.

If the power supply is a nine volt battery then the batery connections could be faulty, ie dry joint.

More info about the unit will help me diagnose the problem and suggest a possible fix.

eg manufacturer, web link etc.

Whenever I buy anything these days, I always do a Google search for
problems. Like "TC Electronics G Major Problems" gives you thousands of hits you can browse through and read about it.

I learned my lesson years ago when I bought an Iomega Zip Drive.
A year later I found out about the 'click of death' by doing a Google search for 'Iomeg Zip Problems' and realized I'd bought a royal lemon that destroyed 100's of MB of stuff I'd stored. The company eventually lost a class action lawsuit because of it.
