I saw an article on this back in early 2000. There were a bunch of suggestions, such as 'the tennies,' and 'the double-Os.'

My favourite is 'the zeroes,' because it keeps the two-syllable thing going without sounding too horrible.

I can't wait until I'm old, so I can tell my grandkids about what it was like in the year "ought-seven."
