Is the satriani pick attack sensitive pickup (the FRED) good for legato style playing, harmonics, and does it have good bassy crunch? or is the steve's special better because it has more bassy crunch and treble and bass are increased and the mid is scooped. Which one will sound better in a solidbody ibanez rg in the bridge position.

I used to have a charvel strat and put a fred into it. It sounded terrible. It had a major hum like a single coil. I don't know how the Vai pickup sounds but I would suggest that one over the fred. Or better yet go for an EMG 81 or check out the seymor duncan pickups...
