The company you are thinking of that did the EVH replicas is Charvel, not Carvin...they either used to be or still are affiliated with Jackson guitars...

Carvin actually celebrated their 60th anniversary in 2006...pretty damn impressive for a company that only sells direct to stay around for so long. Thats a mark of a great company as a whole.
