Tori Amos, I'm curious as to what you guys think about her music and everything she has accomplished threoughout her cqreer. Less than a year ago I began to appreciate the honesty and creativity that rings throughout her music. She makes interesting references to God and her spirituality; each song is unique in its content.

What fascinates me about her music, especially her first record is that she takes on every topic, from sex to gender to religion, in such an uncompromising manner. Tori definitely establishes herself as a songwriter with "Little Earthquakes," something that has been lacking in the music industry as of late!

Also, I'm curious as to what you think about Tori Amos' idea for her latest record Strange Little Girls, which presents covers of men's songs from a female perspective.

not a big fan of hers "yet"
do you have any suggestions as to a good
CD to start out with?
i have read interviews with her and articles
about her.
they were all very positive.
It would be good to hear for myself tho.

Little Earthquakes, I think it's best to start out with her first record. Overall, the albums that followed are very diverse, and in order to appreciate her natural growth as a musician, you have to start from the beginning. Being that I started out on panio, it's great to see such an honest musician (with such a beautiful voice) who has managed to survive throughout the changes that this industry has seen.

The thing about Tori is that you can interpret her songs in so many ways and different people can get different things from her songs. If you don't have this cd yet, you should buy it.

Ani Difranco is where it's at in my opinion. She is a great folk/rock guitarist/singer/songwriter, who writes great stuff taht has a helluva lot of edge and bite to them, with both political and more general topics. She sometimes is a bit hard to listen to if you're a guy, because she is certainly coming at music from a very feminist perspective, but she's got a point and you can hear her passion in her voice. I truly recommend that anyone who likes folk that isn't all weepy ballads to check her out.

I don't like her at all but a really rocking band that has a girl lead singer is Lennon. I saw them in concert and they are great.
