Angus Young SG
Alright, so my obvious guitar hero would be Angus Young nad I'm trying to get a guitar matching what he plays. I'm familiar with the Angus Signature and all, but I'm not so sure I want to pick one up, b/c it's pretty expensive and he doesn't really use it for performance/studio/etc. So I'm thinking maybe a SG 61 Reissue, but I'm not sure where to go from there [pickups, etc.]

I think the Angus SG is just a '61/'64 Reissue SG with a Trem Tailpiece with the little devil logo on it.... I would much rather have a regular '61/'64 Reissue than spend the extra money on his signature guitar..... But then again... I would never buy a Gibson let alone an SG.

I'm with Aschelman.
If I had to get an Sg,and wanted it to sound like Angus, I'd just get a 61 re-issue...but I cant for the life of me ever imgagine wanting an sg...I just dont like them

AY Sig SG: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Gibson-Angus-Young-Signature-SG?sku=517038&src=00633

The differences are pretty obvious... but the only main differences are the AY Sig has an AY pickup that replaces one of the '57s... The tailpiece and the smaller pickguard. Personally I wouldn't want to have a guitar with "ANGUS" engraved in the Lyre tailpiece..... the devil logo is pretty cool though.

Re issue looks a thousand times cooler than the sig series, and coast less (than a house for instance), expensive stuff man... to be honest I'll never buy one of those but if I really, really, but really HAD to... I'll go to the re issue.
Power corrupts. Absolute power is kinda neat.

I usually just try to stay away from artist signature modeals all together. I want to be original with my guitars and not use something else a professional has endorsed or created. Such as those Dime Deans that are o So popular now, great guitars, ive played a few of them, but I wouldn't buy them because your pretty much buying somebody elses guitar, I would much rather get my Own SG and customize it the way I want it to look, but still get that Angus tone your looking for.

I had an early-60's SG, and it was a POS. The neck/body joint is so weak that you can't keep it in tune. Even the hardtail version flexes so much that tuning one string changes the other five. And it has the classic Gibson fragility at the neck/headstock transition. Don't walk away - RUN!!

I imagine you could get a Schecter or something... plug it into the right amp and tweak the EQ enough and it would probably sound like Angus. Or just get a newer SG that has some of the kinks worked out, if you really want it to look like Angus.
