Make sure to relax while you play... just like Superhuman says above - nothing to add apart from re-stating that you must be comfortable and relaxed.

You may find you can play faster by locking your wrist and tremolo picking from the elbow - BUT - you'll end up damaging yourself eventually and not being able to play for long if at all....
