Don't try playing something fast unless you can play it slowly and perfectly. Using a metronome or drum machine/software is the best advice... that and a LOT of practice.
Seriously, you will save yourself years of wasted time if you forget trying to play fast when you start out and focus on playing perfectly at a pace that is comfortable for you. Speed comes gradually from there, just stick with it and you will get there.
