I've not been around for a while... I've been shut in the house playing guitar for 12 hours a day for the last week and a half...

The reason? I've got the practical element of my LCM diploma today (In about an hour)...

I could be asked to play pretty much any chord, scale or arpeggio. I have to play rhythm and lead pieces with multiple key changes and nasty time signatures, have aural tests and finally perform a composition.

Ah well.... it'll all be over in about 3 hours...

Wish me luck... I'll let you know how I get on... If I have to improvise lead over 5/4 I could be in trouble... :D

I think it went OK...

All the scales / chords etc were fine, rhythm was fine but the lead backing was in 5/4, and it was a kinda acoustic folksy - not my preferred option. Ended up going a bit out of key here and there, but pulled a face like I meant it... ;)

The composition worked really well in the end, kind of a rip off of 'Midnight', 'Day at the Beach' and 'Bamboo'...

We'll see if I pulled it off... all the stuff I've learnt on the way has got to be good either way though...

I'm just pleased it's over... I can finally play guitar and enjoy it again!

I find out the result 'within 8 weeks'... might be tomorrow, might be February...

It's all on the lead really. I need 65% to pass, but the lead was worth 25% of the overall mark. If I didn't get away with the out of key stuff under the banner of 'chromaticism', then 65/75 is maybe a bit of a stretch... I think I got close to full marks in everything else, but looking back, the lead was shameful.... :o

Which Vai/Satch tunes are you planning to do? Do the extremist man.... bonus points for the harmonica action!
