I'm not exactly a beginner but I am almost exclusively self taught. So, I haven't had anyone teach me how to select a classical guitar. Currently I have a Yamaha C40 how ever I'm thinking of getting a better one. Some one help me. Give me some tips. What are the good brands out there?. How do I select the proper guitar? What should I look out for? How do I select between an ordinary guitar and one with a cut away?

a cutaway gives u access to higher frets..but apparently it changes tone as well...significant or not i do not know..im a believer in getting what u feel most comfortable with...

You should definitely be comfortable with playing whatever you decide to purchase. (Whether you are more comfortable with cut away or regular) Just look for something that you are comfortable playing at this point. To be honest, the better classical guitars will usually cost 1,000 and up.

In my experience as a classical guitarist, Alvarez has always been a good choice for a classical guitar brand. Good tone and craftmanship.

its not really a classic guitar but it is by far one of my two favorite guitars and i recomend it, it is a semi hollow body casino with a bigsby, with twin double coil humbucking pickups(naked or not, u choose)!!!! It has a tone that can fo anywhere from punk to blues and plus if you got the money then they are real easy to smash on stage(makes for a good show)!!!!
I'm a rockstar, i dont get std's i just pass 'em on!!!
