I agonised for quite a while over that. Basically I went with gold because my 'brief' to myself was a CS356 with bound neck etc rather than a CS336...and once it was all ordered that was that.
However at least one other poster has thought the gold gives it 'a touch of class'. I was very worried that it would look vulgar, but overall I'm OK with it.
I understand where you're coming from and I'm generally of the same opinion.
