That's not it.
The D-Dorian mode belongs to the C Major scale because the notes of D-Dorian are: D-E-F-G-A-B-C-D, which are the exact notes used in the C Major scale.
The notes of the D Major scale are D-E-F#-G-A-B-C#-D.
