You want the truth? You can't handle the truth :D

Yeah, I liked it a lot. The intro was different, the backing track wasn't detracted from and there were some very nice 'cliche's in there that fitted the track well. I didn't like the whammying ( is that what you were doing? ) near the end, but that's a personal taste thing ( also I'm jealous 'cos Tele players can't do that! ).

Does it need more work? I dont think so. Which brings me to the reason for my reply ( apart from politeness of course! ).

I hated my first attempt at this track - its rubbish. Last night I spent ages trying different things and got something recorded. Then it hit me that I'd completely missed the point. I wasn't trying to play a solo or lead 'off the cuff' as it were, and therefore improve my playing, I was trying to produce an overcomplicated piece, or in this case pieces, of different things. I was even multi-tracking to get an effect I liked. So I'm not going to post it, I think it's not in the spirit of the excersise. The rubbish will have to do!

I was wondering if anyone else felt the same thing? Or am I alone in that? Phew!

Peace.
Can you play "Far Far Away?"

Yes - how far would you like?

Feedback time :D.

Wriggler - Good Lord, that was brilliant! Perfect phrasing, nice melodic ideas, and a cool tone to boot - great take. One of my favourites this month, and all (except mine) have been fantastic!

RGrandsire - Another excellent take! This is much better than your first one, very atmospheric and well-thought-out. Once again I have to compliment you on your tone! I think it's great as is, but if you think you can top it, by all means go ahead!

Zach - Great job! Nice tone, and the use of the harmonies (or was that a pitch-shifter?) was very striking.

Keep 'em coming, everybody!

would it be agenst the rules to slow down or speed up the tempo of the BT....i am thinking of doing something spacey and need to slow it down in parts and speed up in others

No, it's not against the rules. Also people have changed the pitch of previous tracks to accommodate different tunings as well. I've thought about inserting a silent break in parts of tracks to add tension, but just haven't so far. So yeah...pretty much anything goes as far as I know.

am I the only one that can't seem to download the backing track? I don't see it on the soundclick page (unless it's a different name, he said it was called "benheavy" or something, and I don't see that) and when I try to download it off the page it tells me some error has occured and shuts down the internet browser... could anybody possibly upload it to a soundclick page for me, at least long enough for me to download it to my computer?

Thats an interesting viewpoint. Are there rules? As a latecomer, I dont know if there are. My own (personal) feeling is that the BT should be left as it is as far as is possible. I understand the pitch shifting for ppl using non-standard tunings, but other than that surely it's the challenge of playing with the track as it's given is the thing? That's partly what I meant when I said earlier I was getting hooked up in overcomplications.

I'd be interested in the views of the people who kicked this whole thing off - what did they have in mind?

Jiujitsu - thanks for your appreciation! I'm gratified that someone liked it.

That would be me. I feel the BT's should be left alone as much as possible as well. I think you should be able to add anything you want but you can't change the originol track. This would be to make it as fair as possible. I'm open to suggestion and maybe all of us regular participants could get some rules together that I could sticky. PM me for now with ideas and suggestions and if we need to I'll make a thread so we can all discuss it.

Awesome, love the use of the delay and feedback in the beginning. Very nice tone and melodies as well esp. in the "heavy" parts if you know what I mean : ).

[QUOTE=jiujitsu_jesus]

Zach - Great job! Nice tone, and the use of the harmonies (or was that a pitch-shifter?) was very striking.

Thanks a lot bro!

Yeah it was harmonies, I can never ever get the right harmony with one of those effects, it always sounds wird to me.

Dude don't touch it! I think it's awesome!! must have played it 30 times already....the tone and phrasing add such an intense feel that compliments what is an already supurb BT!!!

And for such a tough BT...a great job on all of them so far....way beyond my capabilities  Keep up the great work, I love listening to this stuff :D

my solo is up there, im just really dissapointed with teh quality. this was just real quick and impromptu; i did like 2 takes of it simply because i havent played guitar all day, but im still kindof warmed up from last nights intense jam. annnyways, i accidently put the mp3 in like 20kbs of sound quality as opposed to 128, so bear with me. if its too terrible, i can mix it down again, but my stupid recording program only gives me a certain ammount of mp3 mixdowns, and i would like to conserve them wisely :)

I agree the BT is beautiful, not my cup of tee (not used used to play in B).
Thanks again.

What’s up guys.
The last two weeks have been horrible for me. First I cut myself on my middle finger and five days later I cut myself on my index finger with a string. Finally, Yesterday I was able to sit down and do some recording, when I finished recording my take, went downstairs to have a glass of wine, I was rinsing a glass and it broke in my hand. I got two cuts on my right hand. I wanted to revisit my take, but now I am not gonna be able to play until my hand heals.

Ok. Now I feel much better. Anyway, here is my take:

November

I’m gonna take a listen to the other member’s takes and I’ll be commenting later.
As always, thanks for listening.

.
Someday I`ll play like in my dreams.

More feedback...

Quickfingers - that absolutely blew me away! Very interesting ideas, great use of double-stops and shreddy bits. I really like your playing style in general, it's great. Methinks you should participate in this more often! Great work!

Equator - once again, a very nice take! The playing was very well-thought out and atmospheric, keeping me interested all the way through, and the use of sound-effects was cool.

6strngs - pretty damn good! Interesting use of the power chords, and some great melodic work. Keep it up.

I can't get over how well everybody has dealt with this very difficult backing track, it says something about the calibre of the players we have here at GT! Great job this month by everybody!

Once is understandable, twice is unlucky, three times is careless! :D
Hope you are able to resume soon!

The take was, like the one you did last month, really interesting. I like the tone a lot - are you getting that with your Line6?
