Ah memories. Probably the first "rock" song I ever heard was In The Mood. Kinda forgot about em for awhile till one day a bunch of us are parked out in the middle of nowhere smoking..um.. stuff, and 2112 was played on the radio for the first time. All I remember is everybody in the car had their eyes shut and their heads back listening to it.
Then I kinda forgot about em again until Hemispheres came along and that was the one you just had to learn to play. We were lucky enough to have a Neil Peart freak in our band so we actually got to play LaVilla live for awhile.
After that I got sucked into the 9-5 career world of sales, got married, had kids and life has been **** ever since. :(

man, we must be brothers! i'm sucked into the "working man" role also, along with being formerly married and giving up a perverted amount of check to child support! hemispheres blew me away as well! i learned that entire album and still play it today. it was and is an exercise in chord theory!
but as for my favorite song, i dont have one, i have many! but heres a few....
1. hemispheres (the whole song)
2. la villa strangiato
3. the camera eye
4. xanadu
5. natural science
6. losing it
7. here again
8. by tor and the snow dog
.....and on and on and on......

they're all so good, though i'd guess i'd have to say:
2112 Overture/Temples of Syrnix (i think that's how it's spelled)
Limelight
Closer to the Heart

To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.
