If you really wanna do some decent sounding bed tracks I'd suggest first of all getting a decent recording program like Cubase or whatever.
Then invest in a couple of VST synths like Plex or X-Phraze.

Once you have those, you can pretty much write any song you want just by clicking a couple of buttons.

Like... this one was done with X-Phraze just by painting in a one midi note:

All the drums, bass and synths are played by the instrument.

On this one, I just did the same sorta thing but added guitar and bought a Dance Drum Loop from PLP.

Basically, just hit the keys.. then add the guitar and a few sound effects and loop the drums:

The whole song took less than 30 minutes to write & ended up getting nominated for best song at JPF.
