Try a search on the forum - there have been a few threads on this over time.

Briefly:

natural harmonics are created by touching the string above the fret wire and picking the string (try 12th fret for an idea). you'll get a different note from fretting over different frets - try 5, 7, 12 & 17. Don't hold the string to the fret though, just rest your finger over it.

Artifical harmonics (AKA Pinch Harmonics) are acheived by hitting the string with your thumb right after the pick hits the string - it's harder than getting natural harmonics, but once you get the technique, no problems.... you move your picking hand to get different notes...

try the forum search man.... we've talked about it loads.... :D

Nah... 'Chickin Pickin' is playing with thumb and fingers - country style! called chicken pickin' because the shape your hand finds itself in is kinda like a chicken's head....

They sound like a high pitched squeal. To get an idea, try picking a note and then touching the string very lightly over the pickups - you should get a harmonic there....

Absolutely LOADS of them. Every time you hear an electric guitar really scream, it's a pinch harmonic. Vai and Satriani use them loads, so do ZZ Top and Zakk Wylde.

Off the top of my head ('cos I'm listening to it now) - 'Circles' by Joe Satriani has some in the middle lead section....

Listen to the tail end of ZZ Top's LaGrange. The Reverend really gets into playing the squeal, and it's not nearly as over the top as say....Dimebag.
