I went to see the hamsters not long ago. The lead guitarist (for the encore) brought out this guitar with a load of LEDs along the fretboard that lit up whenever he flicked this switch. A long shot i know, but does anyone know of a site/book that gives tips/help on how to do cool things like this?

The first link earthman posted - you can buy that on ebay... It's just a plastic strinp that sticks to the top edge of the neck, and is battery powered. Requires no mods to the guitar.
Option 2 is what I have in one of my guitars, and that was the guy that did it. I don't have any issues with interference etc. Couldn't tell you about cost though as I bought the guitar that way....
Unless you're very handy at this kind of stuff, doing it yourself would be pretty tricky - you're gonna have to get the finger board off the neck, drill it all out and route all the electrics. Mine has a compartment in the back for a 9v battery like active pickups - again, not something I'd want to do myself....

I SEEN something like the second link Brendon put up in a Pillar video. It was on the bass and the lights lit up in different patterns while he played, it looks pretty cool to see in action. Yep.
You go outside and practice screaming. We'll play music while you're gone.

Vai plays a guitar with blue lighted frets on the new G3 video during Building the Church.

Yeah... it's his main stage guitar now.... called 'Mojo' as I recall. He used it loads when I saw him on tour. That Sims guy does the fretboard lights for him too....
