Hello everyone. Got a question for you all. I am left handed, I play right handed guitar. I play like this cause at the time I wanted to play (10 years ago) all that I had was a right handed guitar available to me. I have grown comfortable this way, but I sometimes feel hindered by this, due to the coordination between the two hands. Would the proper thing to do is take what i've learned playing right handed and transfer that to playing left handed or leave well enough alone?

I probably depends how far down the road you are, and how comfortable you are Vs how much of a hinderance it is.

I know a couple of people who are left handed and play right handed, and also a guy who plays a right handed guitar left handed, so all the strings are the other way around (my brother - he's left handed but he learned on my guitar, and just did it upside down!).

Are you hindered to the point that you can't practice your way out of it? If you swap around, you'll probably still have to work on co-ordination between hands - they're doing totally different things.... and they don't know how to do each other's job.

I think if it was me, I'd keep working on it the way you are rather than switch and start again - unless you dream of being Michael Angelo and being able to play either way. If you do, make sure you get a comedy haircut like he has... :D

And, welcome to the boards man...

hey there, I'm a lefty who plays right handed too. For me it was a lot easier to play that way because I have a lot more dexterity in my dominant (left) hand and, of course, guitars and lessons are a lot easier to come by. My buddy is left handed and just plays a RH guitar upside down. Very fun to watch.

I'm going to keep the ole Ibanez axe unmodified. Now that I know I'm not the only one playing the way I do. I feel so normal now, lol

I know how that is. Sort of. I'm left handed but I play right handed, and I constantly find myself wishing I had learned to play guitar left handed instead, just to be different from the majority of people. And also for a sense of symmetry when playing onstage, because Michael's right handed.

My buddy, Who got me started playing was left handed cept he could play left handed, right handed, right side up, upside down. I was jealous as hell. I wish he was still around the area he was a smokin player. Plus it looked cool as hell, playing upside down left handed.

I'm not sure. I often feel hindered by coordination between my left and right hand. And I'm right handed.
