I usually refer to anything larger than a plastic fish pond a lake, screw the specifics haha.

There's a lake around where I live called Norris Lake, and it's pretty small. Anything smaller than that, I refer to as a slough.

I think if you can sail in it, it's a lake. If you can wade across it, it's a pond. And if you can't see all the way across it...it's a BIG lake. :)
