I wanted to achieve this end result, but without modifying my guitar. I bought a planet waves connector for my cable with a kill switch built in. I don't know the tech term, but it is supposed to be push to engage, push again to switch back, but I basically broke the switch so it stays off unless you're holding it down - that way I can use it for buckethead style staccato....
