Where did the members page go? It's not showing up for some reason.

The search engine spiders have been going through the (huge) member page and indexing every page. It has been a big load on the server. So... I took the member list page out of the site as a quick fix.

I wondered how long it would be before anyone noticed. Not long! :)

I am wondering what to replace it with. I have always found the member list way too long to navigate. What do you use the member pages for? Do you like the search feature? Do you browse the list? How do you use it?

Let me know and I can think up a way to give you what you need without letting the spiders eat up processor cycles.

Could you somehow make it so it doesn't list members with zero posts? Call it an "active members list?" That only lists the members that have posted in the last year?

Yeah, that's a good idea Jolly has there. I think only like the first 5 pages actually have active members.

I think people mainly use it to see where people stand with reputation, and post count. I've also used it when searching for certain useres that I remember, but can't quite remember their exact username. A search by location could be useful for finding members who live close to you. Or, maybe a way to sort the members based on their distance from your specific location. I also think that only active and contributing members should be included in the members list. This would cut down the size by a ton!

Yeah, I agree with the "active members" idea. It would shave thousands of people off of it. All I use it for is to check where people are in rep anyway.

If I'm not mistaken Jon, there are ways (not sure exactly) to tell/make the spiders ignore certain pages. Just food for future thought

Here is a decent explaination
