I broke the nail on my middle finger of the right hand. It's the worst finger nail to lose since it's dominate. Naturally it bothers me to play and limits what I can do. I got some metal Dunlop finger picks (I was desperate) and have been trying those. Not the best but better than nothing. Anyone else try finger picks on emergencies like this? Which ones have you found work best?

I've used the plastic dunlop fingers picks - the metal ones are for lap steel aren't they?

The plastic ones were OK I guess, not the same obviously but you'll probably not get any better. When I used to play classical, I used to use clear nail varnish on my right hand finger nails to stop them breaking - works well.... maybe try that once you've grown it back...

In your position, I'd probably just do as best as I could without....

That's what I've figured. I threw them on, off, on, and off again. Today I just sucked it up and practiced without it. I have to start doing things with my left hand so I don't break them like that again....

Uhh, well, If your talking about those metal thing syou slip onto your fingers to frail, then I say OK. Thumb picks arent normally used in CLASSICAL stuff, folk stuff, quite often....
