I find that Tortex picks need to be fresh to work properly. They soon lose that grippy texture, and then they're just like any ol' pick.
I keep mine in the mojo bag that came with the silver picks I use sometimes. 3 of them, plus red, orange, and blue Tortex, plus 3 different stone picks sent to me by a buddy in California who makes them.
I find the hard picks tend to 'clack' on the strings, but there's some major tone to be found if I can get the hang of approaching the strings just so. Ya never stop learning....
