1 - Andres Segovia - playing anything by Villa-Lobos
2 - Elliot Fisk - playing any of Paganini's 24 Caprices (but #5 is astounding!)
3 - Joe Pass - "Night & Day" from his 1st Virtuoso album (or anything else on that album!)
4 - Charlie Christian - any solo from the recordings of him with Benny Goodman
5 - Edward Van Halen - "Eruption" (of course!)
6 - Yngwie Malmsteen - "Far Beyond The Sun"
7 - Ritchie Blackmore - "Difficult To Cure" live
8 - Jeff Beck - any solo from "There & Back"
9 - Shawn Lane - any solo from Tritone Fascination album for sheer technique
10 - Myself - "Magnanimous Man"

Great topic, BTW!

Damn, I hate these lists! :p

I probably need about a day to think about this properly, but here's an attempt:

1: David Gilmour - "Shine On, You Crazy Diamond"
2: John McLaughlin - "One Word" (yeah, all of the solos from this track - and pretty much every other solo, guitar and otherwise, on Birds of Fire)
3: John McLaughlin - "The Dance of Maya"
4: David Gilmour - "Comfortably Numb"
5: Marty Friedman - "Tornado of Souls" (hard to pick my favourite solo by Marty, though - each one on Rust In Peace, Countdown to Extinction and Youthanasia is a masterpiece)
6: George Benson - "On Broadway" (live version)
7: Chris de Garmo - "The Mission"
8: Jimi Hendrix - "Voodoo Chile - Slight Return"
9: David Gilmour - "Time"
10: Gary Moore - "Still Got the Blues"
"It's all folk music... I ain't never heard no horse sing!"
- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Yeah, I'll probably have this list edited about a thousand times in the next week alone, but here goes.

10) Five to One - the Doors
9) The Worm - Audioslave
8) Communication Breakdown - Led Zeppelin
7) My Eyes Have Seen You - the Doors
6) In Bloom - Nirvana
5) Nowhere Man - the Beatles
4) Serve the Servants - Nirvana
3) All Along the Watchtower - Jimi Hendrix
2) Unmade Bed - Sonic Youth
1) Time - Pink Floyd

I have the nagging feeling I'm missing out on a whole bunch of my very faves, but that'll have to do for now. All I can guarantee will remain in the same places are #s 1 and 2.

Clapton is God, so is Freddie King, listen to Freddie's solo's and it sounds pretty much like E.C.
