I just ordered a new guitar after using the same used one for over 4 years. Someone told me that I should go to a guitar place and have them string it, tune it etc. I know how to string the guitar and tune it but would they do anything else for a new guitar? If so what should I ask for when I bring it there?

Sure ask them to set up your action and intonation and maybe the pickup height. Tell them to make sure you don't have any fret buzz and that should be good for awhile.
