I'd definitely stick with the thicker gauge. I always use a medium or heavy gauge on my acoustic guitars, because once you get used to it your technique improves quite a bit. When you switch back to the electric you'll find a lot of things pretty much effortless.

Besides, thicker string sound better on acoustics. Louder, too.
