slide guitar

hey i have always wanted to play slide guitar so i finally bought one because my local store had a sale so i was wondering i tryed looking for stuff coundt find any so can i either have lesson i missed on hear or maybe classic songs i could learn thanks to anyone who helps me out

You have probably already thought of this but maybe get a book. Or you could sit down and just figure it out from there. As in play what feels right. Bye Bye. And do you mean a lap steel or just the thing that goes over your finger

+1 to the Allman Brothers in Duane Allmans days... The guitar work is second to none...

Check out a guy named Eric Sardinas... he's not very well known however, he does have his own signature slide called the "Preachin Pipe". He also has some instructional DVD's. I saw him live at the House of Blues in Chicago and I also talked to him and his rhythm player after the show and he's a cool guy. He's only about 30-32 years old too...

Also... get on google.com and search for "slide guitar lessons" or "slide guitar scales" and you should come up with a bunch of stuff. It's not too hard to find anything on the internet you just have to try.

+100 to both of you guys for Duane Allman... Early cream and Allman bross were great!! I saw Sardinas too... he is really good. He was a, uhm, don"t know how that is called in english? Well, when someone not so known performs just before someone famous. Anyhow, he played before Vai. And played well.

Check out Chris Rea for slide work. Real nice, nothing imposing or agressive, smooth and clean. Real nice.

Bonnie Raitt.

She plays a nice clean even slide so you should be able to get some basic chops down.

A lot of slide players will use open tunings to be able to slide whole chords and such, and you might find it easier at first this way in order to get the basic techniques down. One of the easiest slide songs I know (and what helped me to get the gist of slide playing down) was Led Zeppelin's (cover of) "Hats Off to Roy Harper".

It's in an open C tuning: CGCGCE
And ~ shown = to shake it back and forth around the fret quickly.
