I have been wondering lately...
If I get an amp such as this one Fender Deville 410 60watt , and add some distortion pedal. Not a harsh one, but a smooth rich overdrive/distortion pedal. Then put the amp on the "high gain" setting, (fender amp aren't that distorted) and use the pedal on low distortion but high volume, could I get a soaring lead tone. One that really cuts through all other sounds screams. Not a weak tone/distortion, but one that can respond the slightest touch of fingers. But not too distorted to make it sound unmusical or brittel.
Im asking cause I really want to get distortion and the "lead tone" the old fashion way. No dual-rectos aloud. Since Fender amps have such a good clean tone, I might aswell invest in something that will last. A clean tone either good or bad, but you can manipulate distortion tones the way you want.
I dont really know if this makes sense  , but please reply if you have anything to say. Would this work?

That would work great. I used to do that with a Peavey Classic 50 and an MXR ZW-44 overdrive. It sounded great!

I think it would work. I was fiddling with a Vox AC30 the other day and did the same thing. I found a clean cound a liked, and stuck a distortion pedal in front of it and it wasn't bad at all. In fact I'd happily sell my Trace Elliot Speed Twin (Marshall on steroids), because the clean sound was so nice and the distorted sound was quite usable.
Notice I said that I used the distortion when the amp was clean; some amps don't respond well to pedals when already a bit overdriven and this was one of 'em. An overdrive pedal in front of it when already crunchy sounded bad to me.
Ya just gotta experiment.

He's talking about using an Overdrive pedal in front of the dirty channel to boost solo's.

sounds good on paper, but have you ever played this amp? I have the 410 deluxe and on the "more drive" setting with the drive at "6" and some volume the amp pulls through quite nicely. anymore drive on that setting will just result in noise and a very muddy distortion that isn't all that pleasent. i would recommend a BOSS super overdrive or the zakk wylde overdrive with the amp on the regular drive setting to get the sound you want.

Thanks alot guys :)
Yea I was thinking of adding an MXR Distortion+. It was the one that Randy Rhoads used. This is just something I have to try out for myself.
If only there were Marshall Halfstacks under 1200$... :(

I have one I'm thinking of replacing with something smaller and lighter. I'd part with it for a grand plus shipping. ;)

Awesome, what model is it?

Well, actually, I prolly shouldn't have said it's a Marshall stack. The cab is a Marshall 8412 and the head is a Trace Elliot Speed Twin--which is kinda like a souped-up Marshall DSL.
