You should import the backing track straight into one of the tracks in your recording software. What software are you using? Once you do this you won't have to worry about recording the BT.

Be sure that you go into your sound properties of your computer and software, and make sure that only the Line-In is selected as the recording input, and not something like "what you hear". Then, make sure that the track you are recording on is set to only record the input from the line-in.

All depends on the software you are using, it's probably in the setup menu... if you're using creative labs player then you need to go to record settings and change it from "record what you hear" - this applies for a lot of non-sequencing software. What you using (software and soundcard)?

i am importing the backing into one one of the tracks in MAGIX audio studio gen 6 then selecting to record on another track, but when i try to record using the option 'playback while recording' it records both
i dont know what the sound card is, its just the one in the laptop.
i have just been looking through the properties menu and found do not map through device, should this be ticked?
