Mad Season is another outstanding Seattle 'crossover' band.

Above is easily one of the best albums I own.

Yeah, I've been meaning to get the Temple of the Dog album, but I keep living on a farm. :p
You go outside and practice screaming. We'll play music while you're gone.

alice in chains and nirvana are different.

nirvana grew up more in punk and some heavy metal and alice in chains were a glam band at one point(hence the name).

that being said...i like both for different reasons...and if you can listen to in utero and alice in chains' self titled and see any reason why they should be compared other than they were around at the same, you're musically impotent. other than them both having junkies and distorted guitars, they're nothing alike.

edit: upon looking up on wikipedia, it says that alice n chainz was supposed to be layne's speed metal band....but i remember jerry talking about some glam band pre-aic in an interview around the time boggy depot was coming out.
okay...my post is done...goodbye.

Dude. That's the only good point I've seen in this thread yet, my own included. Rep points.

Sorry for reviving this old thread but always thought Soundgarden was better than both tbh. Alice In Chains had a few songs on Dirt that I thought were decent, and I genuinely love some of the singles off of Facelift, but I think a lot of it is quite boring and lacking in energy. Nirvana had energy but their music was quite one dimensional and the only thing it had going for it was being moderately catchy rock music with decent riffs and staying power of about two listens. Soundgarden had musical talent while not being boring, and they never got the recognition they deserved imo.

Just wanna add

The thing with Nirvana it's all about right place right time.

You couldn't get away from

" smells like teen spirit "

it was on radio & Mtv all the time & is still to this day a song that majority of people love.

In a time without all these streaming sites etc to find music, it was just word of mouth of how good a band was.

By around 93, they were massive in England

I agree completely Alice in chains were much more musically talented group, in more ways than one, layne's voice and lyrics were much better than Kurt's and the same goes for Jerry's guitar work, I love nirvana but I don't think they were the best grunge group.

I think my dream grunge supergroup would be Chris Cornell on vocals and rythm guitar, Jerry Cantrell on lead guitar, Dave Grohl on drums, and Jeff amment on bass.
