I am an beginner to intermidiate player and I found Guitar Tricks because I could not afford a teacher. I have been researching training aids for the guitar and came across something that seemed too good to be true. This Fretlight guitar is supposed to replace your teacher with all awailable features.

If you haven't come accross is please visit their site and see their sample videos.

Now I have a question. If anyone has or had this guitar please let me know if its realy worth the $600 they are asking. Because to me it looks like space age technology and then why havent a lot of people heard about it???
Please reffer to this link to see it.

Thanks.

thats very interesting..never seen anything like it before..however i dont think its necessary to blow 600 bucks on an interactive guitar...that is if money is an issue ...a normal one will still do you fine..but thats imo.. :)

I know about fretlight - they did a fair bit of advertising in the UK a few years back.

I'm divided on the wisdom of them. On the one hand, all the scales / chords etc are lit up for you so you can learn the patterns, but that brings me to the negative. All it can teach you is the patterns, it won't give you any understanding of anything beyond that.

Through repetition you'd learn the scales with it, but being as the information is widely available on the internet / books etc you'd probably be better off buying a cheaper guitar and using some of the money you save to buy books, maybe take a lesson a month to stay on track / pay for a guitartricks subscription (which I don't have, but it helps alot of people) and whatever else.

Once you get started you'll find that you could spend any amount of time and money on guitar stuff... :D
