Played for the most part off the B string, there are plenty of opportunities to use a number of scales from pentatonic to harmonic minor to major and arabian etc. I just use my ear anyway and usually don't know what I'm playing. BTW, didn't get around to adding any bass guitar so if you want you can always add your own bass track to thicken things out a bit. Feel free to multi-track and harmonise in as many directions as you want. BTW, this track was recorded at 120 bpm in 4/4 time - you may need to to pull the file 3/4 of a bar to the right to sync it up to the metronome in your sequencer. Hope you enjoy working with this one!
A little more info about the track in there.

I get 160 BPM 4/4 on the backing track, not 120BPM.
Here's a handy web page tool where you can tap out a beat on you space bar and find the BPM.
BPM tool
Once you know the BPM you can then submit it and another web page opens.
you can then find out how the beat breaks down into different ms segments for setting up delays, etc.

I agree that 160 in 4/4 sounds exactly right to me.

Just checked it in Cubase SX2, definitely set up at 120 bpm in 4/4 time... strange thing is though, the drums are all programmed at 120 bpm, but wehn I turn on the metronome it sounds more in at 160.... must be a time signature thing. Anyway, at 120 bpm's with the metronome off yu get nice even riffs per bar... just don't listen to the metronome at the same time as the drums! Whatever works I suppose;-)

Yeah, me too;-) I'm going all out with tapping, string skipping and sweep picking. Keeping away from max speed the whole way through, a few melodic passages linked by shred runs and sweeps is working very well. It'll be about a week before I have anything to post though, busy as hell at work and babies at night.... very little time for practice!

my submission will probably be last minute since I have family visiting right now.

I just added a bass track to the song if anybody cares to use it. Not sure if I'll be able to get around to doing any lead, but I had just as much fun doing the bass for it. If you think anything needs to be changed, or played different, by all means let me know.

Great job Eric, fills the overall tone out nicely!

Thanks PRSPlaya! Really lightened my load a lot and concentrate on working on the melody.
Great bass work.

Thanks a lot! I definitely don't claim to be a bass player, by any stretch of the imagination, but I thought I'd give it a shot non the less. :)

Just heard your assigment PRSPlaya, great tone and melody lines!
You really nailed that Satriani's tone. Those whammy work are just wild! Love them!
You manage to take a 'dark' sounding backing track and make it so up lifting. I think it is safe to say your are a 'glass is always gonna be filled up' kinda guy :)
Thanks for sharing !
