Mark got my vote but PRS definitely gets Honorable Mention. I listened to both like 5 times each before making my decision.

Couldn't open Mark's page, some kind of an error on it at the moment. Good efforts across the board for everyone else so far though.

A suggestion for the mods:

It would be cool if the poll could be a bit more detailed so you could get a bit more constructive information for each player.
For example, 3 questions "rate the following on a scale of 1-10"- technique, tone, composition. OR a percentage or a score 1-10 overall per player would be really helpfull. At least you would get some feedback and wouldn't mind coming last if you knew you had a great tone and nice composition but it was your technique that let you down or vice versa. Just a thought... (I used to work for a market research firm so I did a lot of boring web surveys etc!). There's a hundreds of free scripts out there, wouldnt be too hard to put together - depending on the backend of GT that is.

Soundclick doesn't work for me here at work. For some reason it just sits there and acts like it's buffering but never plays the song. PureVolume worked perfectly... so Jeff's is the only one I could listen to for now... I'll make my decision later.

Yeah, I know what you mean, it all depends on the backend to the site. No worries, you never kow unless you ask!

For anyone who can't get to the Soundclick page you can download my mp3 HERE.

It's just from RapidShare. Scroll down and choose the free download option, then wait for 17 seconds or so as the timer clicks down and you can download it then. If you wait too long I think you have to do it over.

I've registered my own website, but I have no clue how to set it up yet. When I figure that out I'll put my music there, which should be more convenient for everyone (me included!).

Ok, you guys have me thinkin'. Maybe a three tier scoring system (Tech, Tone, Comp), points 1-10. Everyone who scores you adds to the final average so you could concievably end up with like an 7.85 or something then rank people by thier final total? Seems feasable but there are a few issues.

1. How do we get everyone to score everyone on the list? So that someone gets one person to score them all 10's so his score is 10 while someone gets judged 30 times and ends up with a 9.46? Hardly seems fair and equal footing.

2. Is there even a place we could put a poll like this up?

3. Seems like a fair bit of work, I'm not trying to be lazy but setting up individual polls for everyone who enters may start to get difficult if participation continues to grow.

What if the scores are made to be cumulative? So you could show the results as average scores and also as total scores and make the cumulative score the one that determines the ranking. That way someone who gets one vote of 10 gets a cumulative/average score of 10/10, whereas someone who gets, say, 5 votes of 8 gets 40/8 and wins, because 40 > 10.

Just a thought.

It was a close call between Mark Pav and Prs, but I liked Prs's tone better and that broke the tie.

Yeah, I guess I would just rather have it if you score one you have to score all. Just so everyone gets a fair review and score, and there isn't any confusion.

I doubt the back-end of this site is set up to handle this kind of poll or rating system. I don't know what Magic's skill level is or what he is allowed to do as far as setting up scripts on the server to make this all happen either. Maybe the answer is for those of us voting to take the time to pick our favorite but also give a constructive crit for each entry. I know it's kind of a pain in the a$$ but you're listening to them all before you vote anyway. Just list the names and write a little note about the entry.

For example:

SO&SO: tone- good fit with back track... Comp-Had some good riffs but to repetitive...Tech-no big mistakes but only played in the #1 pen. and the box extension. Over all- Not bad. Next time maybe try using more of the neck and maybe try finishing runs on the root note for a more pleasing sound.

It's just an idea. It's a bit tough because everyone is at different skill levels here. What might sound raged to some of us maybe the best thing that person has done so far. So some crits, while well intended maybe discouraging to some.

Yep, great track - for me the techinique was very polished and there was a nice variation of ideas and themes. Well done Mark!

The polls have closed?! But I didn't vote! I thought they'd be open all month. Gah!

Oh, man. Well, now I know for next time, I guess.

So, thanks, guys, for the votes and kind words. :D Cookie monster, I think most of those bits were from the diminished scale, but I think about chord tones more than scales when I play.

OK.

Due to popular demand the Polls for future GT Solo assignments will remain open for the entire month. I better not hear any *bratty 8 year old voice* "why is the poll still open, nobody's voted in a week." :p

We'll try it out and see what everyone thinks. I don't wanna be Jeb Bush and dienfranchise people out of their vote.
