Yep, it all depends on the gear you are using right now. If you're using an amp with nice distortion you could try putting an overdrive pedal before the amp. Distortion doesnt have to be up full to get a nice tone. You should be able to get a nice rhythm tone then experiment with the level of overdrive required for when the solos kick in. Depends on your setup though, what pedals you got? ..guitar, amp, stomp box, processors etc?

Maxon Od's are the way to go for these sorts of things, they'er basically tube screamers with better build and true bypass (they used to make the tube screamers back in the day). They set u back though. What pickups are you using for soloing?

He mentionewd that he wants more feedback during solos, overdrive is great for that, especially over some distortion. A volume pedal could just make the solo too loud and ear piercing when compared to the rhythms. I always like to change the tone for solos, it helps to make them stand out and quite often a good rhythm tone may not translate to a good lead tone. Depends on the outfit, type of music and overall sound I suppose.

Besides the tube screamer, what is another good overdrive pedal?

MXR ZW-44 Wylde overdrive is an excelent overdrive pedal. I use it to get a little more breakup from my clean channel and to boost the gain and tighten the bottom end up on my distortion channel. I also use an MXR 6-band EQ out front for a nice boost and to make the tone more pronounced.

If you wanna boost, buy a boost pedal, not an overdrive pedal. The best one out there is probably the Xotic AC Boost.

Yeah... up inthe tool bar that says "Account FAQ Members List Chat Calendar New Posts SEARCH\/ Quick Links\/ Log Out"

Click Search and a drop box comes down... search "distortion and overdrive" and you should come up with a ton of info.... Use the search bar first anytime you have a question like that. Because, chances are we've already covered a million times. haha. We're all glad to help so don't hesitate to ask... we just ask that you do some looking around on your own first... We answer the same questions over and over a lot of times. Welcome to the boards... Holler if you need anything else...

Also check the links. There is a lot of cool stuff there... like rigs, amp and pedal settings... and repair stuff. Check it.
