I would say that Line 6 products are excellent for quality recordings made simple, yet I haven't had personal experience with the Guitarport. If that's what you're considering, I might suggest just going with a more versatile unit like the Spider series amps or even a PodXT...which have more effects and modeling capabilities, and can still hook up via USB port. I got my PodXT used on Ebay with the instruction book and carrying case for an even $200. I think the only thing the Guitarport offers that the others don't do even more of or better, is that it comes with a recording software...but that's no big deal really. It's probably equivalent to Audacity, which is a free download for anyone. I'm not saying the Guitarport sucks or anything, just that it's purely for playing on the computer with. If that's what you decide on, you might even try getting it on Ebay as well to save a few bucks.
