i do like metal but not particularly death,

i prefer more melodic stuff. quite like children of bodom, a band called kalmah are pretty good. and others. although i like them for the melodies rather than the vocals.

i dont mind screamin and i think it can add variety, but i fel the death metal grunt is just a bit to much. for instance i find canibal corpse quite funny cos the vocals are just too over the top.

anyway not sayin there not talented or anythin just death isnt really my thing.

Carcass and Dying Fetus are a couple of my favorites.

As I Lay Dying is awsome. A lot of members here dislike them because of the screaming and (I'm gonna assume) excess use of open string palm muting.

As far as I know, "new" doesn't really apply to Canibal or even to Arch enemy, but it's not a big thing.

Gotta say, Arch Enemy it's pretty good (Mike Ammot is a great guitar player in metal), my personal favourite it's Lamb of god (check the new single from the upcoming album "Sacrament") both Mark Morton and Willy Addler are killer players (in Killadelphia DVD they show some of the most precise and heavy stuff I've heard)
Power corrupts. Absolute power is kinda neat.

As I Lay Dying is badass. Just saw them live on Monday. I wouldn't exactly call them "death metal".

I used to think that death metal was terrible, but something bizarre happened to my sense of melody and now I really like it. Opeth, Death and Lamb of God are my favourite death metal bands. I also like a little bit of Carcass, Drudkh, Zao, GWAR and Soilwork.

had those days a long time ago, still listen to some bands like Behemoth and only recently to Necrophagist

doubting whether Arch Enemy is deathmetal, I don't agree with it, but the band is good nonetheless

hardcore has been more my thing, now it's almost anything from Tool to Joe Bonamassa to Sonata Arctica and Gentleman :p

Here's some ultra technical ones who can play their instruments properly:

Nocturnus - check out 'Thresholds' - IMO musically the best death metal album ever created - interesting lyrics on this album sci-fi/horror

Necrophagist - great sound and solos, only thing I don't like are the stupid lyrics and song titles which kind of ruin the bands appeal for me

Cynic - excellent death metal fusion band (members joined Death on the 'Human' album)

Death - what can I say, great band (lyrics matured to the point of philosophy just before Schuldiner died (RIP)) - always superior production and guest guitarists

Carcass - check out Swansong and Heartwork, brilliant albums

That should keep your attention, especially if you like great guitar work;-)

I am into Death Metal especaally the newier stuff like Arch Enemy, Nile, Behemoth, and Opeth. I was just listeing to Arch Enemy's Dooms Day Machine and now I am listening to Death's Leprosy. I am more into Death Metal for the guitar stuff. I have gotten used to the cookie monstor vocals over time. I seen Arch Enemy on last years Ozzfest. I actually met them. Very mellow reserved especially Angela. She was quite shy. Gus G was filling in for Chris. He was cool. Gus nailed all of Chris Amott's leads. Gus G is also one of my favorite guitarists.

Yeah, his stuff with Mystic Prophecy is also very good.

also i think Lamb of God is a great band i would not put them in death metal category, opeth and arch enemy are hardly death metal and are not that great aside from amott's guitar demonstrations.
