 Yep, quitting Havoc Din. Last night we had practice and during the 3 hours that we were there, we jammed/practiced for about 45 minutes. Not my doing, the rest of the guys would rather stand around, talk, and smoke instead of practice. Waste of my time.......

This happens most every practice, not just last nights...Driving almost 30 miles one way to just sit there....got tired of it so I quit.

Aw, sorry to hear that, man. Probably for the best, though. Gas ain't cheap.

Hope you find a new band real soon.

Hmmm.. that sucks because you guys were good. I can imagine how you guys would be if everyone had the same drive.

Sucks. But practice is practice.

If it was just a jam session (a night to meet to have fun then I would say --Your a little harsh). But if you were in the band to progress, gig, and make a life playing music, and this was an understanding by the other band mates when you joined then--- You did the right thing. Your serious they are not. Black and White, no gray area. Good, smart move. Wish you the best of luck infinding a new one or starting up your own from scratch.

P.S.--May want to re-join until you have formed/joined the "new" band . That way you are still "socializing musically", not "woodshedding".

The whole cut off your nose to spite your face rap.

My 2 cents.

That's too bad man, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Hope you find a new band soon.
You go outside and practice screaming. We'll play music while you're gone.

Thanks everyone, I'm not quitting music, never will. I'll find or form another band. I've got a good reputation in Columbia so I'm not worried about getting "out of the loop" or anything.

Nah, not just a jam session. This has been going on for about a year. We've been playing shows all over SC, NC and GA and I want to try to make a living out of it. They say they do too, but they don't want to work towards it so I'm not gonna let them hold me back.

Sorry to hear things worked out that way. Does anyone know of a good guide to starting/forming a band?

jeffhx, Man, I did all the booking, promotions, and got us the guitar endorsment. Kept up the myspace, garageband, soundclick, UBL.com, and Bandspace pages. I wrote at least, if not more than, 75% of the riffs. The music was good, but I never was totally happy with how the songs came out in the end. The rest of the guys would just show up for practice, always late, and never did anything else.

Leedog, move here to SC and we'll start one. :D

I know exactly how you feel man!!! It can be extremely frustrating when you want to try progress, but all anybody else ever wants to do is hang out, drink, smoke, and whatever else, and maybe run through (not work on) a few songs.

Now a days people want to be in bands just so they can say they're in a band. It really sickens me to see the attitude of musicians these days. No one cares about the music anymore.

Sorry to hear about that man, I always liked Havoc Din after you sent me them songs, but its for the better. I hope your next band is more cooperative and willful.

Wow... sorry to hear about that, mate. But I'm sure you won't have too much trouble finding another group who are more serious about their music. Perhaps there are some less experienced, but more dedicated bands knocking around the local area who could use a good songwriter/guitarist.

I think theres one of those, "The Idiots Guide..." for forming a band. I once found myself reading it...after I had formed a band.

The Idiot's Guide To Starting a Band

1) Be able to play an instrument
2) Find other people who can play instruments (at least one must have songwriting skills)
3) Become friends with bigger bands in the area
4) Write songs
5) Practice, practice, practice
6) Mooch off the bigger bands for gigs (openings, later sharing headlines)
7) When people like you, do some gigs of your own and let smaller bands mooch off you for gigs
8) Release an album, and let the world fall into your hands.
9) Be rich and famous

That's how I hope it works anyway. We're up to about step 5 or 6. I'll let you know if it works. Anybody can use my guide for free.

THats sucks about your band bud.

I know exactly how you feel. At my practises the drummer and bass player just want to smoke pot, do blues jams and 10 minute drum solos while me and the keyboard player are trying to write songs.

Hope things work out for you.

Well, the drama is over now. :p They all agreed that too much time is waisted. I pretty much just told them that if it gets back to the way it's been, I'm gone for sure to find others that don't waste time. We'll see how long it lasts, got too many years in it to just give up that easily.

Practiced last night for 3 hours, and actually jammed and worked on new songs for about 2.5 of those hours.

Anyway, Havoc Din is still going for the time being.
