Hey everyone, I'm new here, and no better way to get known by asking a stupid question that should be obvious but isn't.

I wanna know if I can put a Vintage '52 Fender Tele neck onto a modern era Strat body?

It looks like it'll fit, but I rather not just mess around and hope for the best.

I don't know about that neck specifically, but generally Tele necks have a square heel, whereas Strats have a rounded heel. So their neck pockets are differently shaped, too. It's possible that you could get it to fit, but you'd have to mess with it a fair bit, I'd say.

pure curiosity ... the main difference between a tele and strat neck? are they diff materials or is it more of a snobbish guitar "you feel the difference" kind of thing or is more like hey i can get a tele neck hell cheap i wonder if it'll fit?

just curious... i'm always happy to expand my knowledge about fender stuff (i'm a gibson fan boy :) )

While you're at it, you should take careful measurements to see if the 12th fret is going to end up exactly halfway between the bridge and the nut. If not, you will never be able to set the intonation so that it will tune properly.

Thanks guys, I figured the heel might make a difference.

also, do you guys know if a Squier pickguard is different from a regular Fender pickguard?

I want to refit my strat with some new pickups but I want to put it onto a nice new clean pickguard.

Bump

Found this, ""Squire" pickguards, for example, can be a Squire by Fender or, Fender Squire or simply Squire. We do not know why the manufacturers do this, but we can assure you, the patterns and parts are NOT INTERCHANGEABLE."

Does anyone know if Squire By Fender is interchangable with Fender?

I know Squire isn't. but anyone know about this?

You couls contact >StewMac< about it. Just be sure to spell it correctly. Its S-Q-U-I-E-R, not SQUIRE. (Some kind of lawsuit issue from Fender's early days).

I've seen more than one Tele with a Strat neck installed on it, so I'm sure it can be done. What I don't know is how that happens, and what you need to do. And there may be good reasons why I've never seen a Strat body with a Tele neck. Better to refer you to the pros than subject you to the risks involved in guesswork.

Well, I'm sure a tele neck can be put onto a strat body or vice versa.

it's probablly best if anything to but a strat neck onto a tele body that way you can cut the curve in.

however, I mean about the pickguards.

Will a fender pickguard fit a instrument that is Squier BY FENDER.

not just Squier or Fender By Squier.

there's a slight difference :P

Even Fender by Fender has some variation in placement and number of screw-holes over the years. If you don't want to fill the existing holes in the body and make new ones to match the new pick guard, I suggest you look for a pick guard that has no perimiter screw holes at all. Then you can use your old pick guard as a template for the screw hole locations.
